First Lieutenant John T. Godfrey, from Louis Guiset Pike, Woonsocket, Rhode Island, New York, awarded the DFC with cluster and Air Medal with three clusters, in front of the 4th Fighter Group total kill-board. Godfrey, 22, of Louis Guiset Pike, Woonsocket, R.I., holder of DFC and cluster, and Air Medal and 3 clusters, with 14 destroyed to his credit, 10 of which he chalked up since 8 March when he became wing-man for Capt. Gentile. Godfrey joined RCAF in Oct 42 and transferred to USAF in April 43, he joined the army shortly after graduating from High School. He has flown Spits, Thunderbolts, and since a month ago Mustangs. He trained in Canada and England. Says Godfrey "Sometimes I run interference for Gentile, others times he covers for me while I carry the pill very much like in a football game."
