Ground personnel of the 319th Bomb Group, 12th Air Force work on a B-26 Marauder (serial number 41-34892) nicknamed "Modern Design" damaged in a mid air collision, 9 February 1944. Handwritten caption on reverse: 'MTO B-26. 134892. 319BG, 440BS, "Modern Design". Printed caption on reverse: '27695 AC - One elevator, a prayer and a lot of good flying brought this AAF B-26 Marauder home following a midair collision Feb. 9 [Handwritten addition: '1944']. 1st Lt. Roscoe Nemer, 637 Reis Ave., Evansville, Ind., 19-year old veteran bomber pilot, landed the heavy Marauder after the wing and propeller of another plane had sliced away half his tail section. This rear view of the crippled bomber shows that the left elevator is completely destroyed. Nemer was forced to land at 175MPH to compensate for the loss. This was Nemer's second close shave within two weeks. He was forced down by fighters and flak to a belly-landing Jan. 28. Nemer flies with the "Big-Tail Birds", oldest medium bomb group in the Mediterranean theater. U.S. Air Force Photo.'
