B-24D - Copilot Lt. Ronald Lee Helder - Ole Kickapoo, Lt. Helder and his command pilot, Lloyd Hughes, were killed in action (KIA) at Campina, Romania, on Operation Tidal Wave as they flew through a wall of flames approaching their target refinery, setting their B-24 bomber on fire leading to crashing at the Prahova River Valley. Aug 1, 1943.
