Left vertical from B-24 "Black Jack". The B-24D named "Black Jack" was Serial Number 41-23816. She served with the 68th Bomb Squadron of the 44th Bomb Group. On 1 October 1943 the mission was to bomb the Messerschmidt Aircraft Factory at Weiner Neustadt Austria.  Black Jack was hit over the target by flak and crashed.  Of the ten crew members five were killed and five bailed out and became POW's.  Black Jack's left vertical was recovered in Austria. The recovered vertical is on display at the Wings Remembered Museum in Tennessee.
