This is a 1947 photo of the airbase my father was flying out of when shot down. One of the few things i remember his telling me about the war was the way they had to fly their fully loaded planes off the end of the runway and then dive on the ships in the harbor to gain enough air speed to fly. He told me that they all called the B-26 the "Baltimore whore" because she had so little wing it was as if "she had no visible means of support." Why Baltimore I have no idea.
