7 January 1945 B-17G 44-6131 #1 engine failed over the channel on the outbound leg of the combat mission. Crew was returning. On the first landing attempt, the pilot was too high and went around in the pattern. On the second attempt, the pilot landed 2/3 down the runway 23 (which was wet) and was unable to stop before reaching the end of the runway and the aircraft dug into the soft ground and nosed-up at 1150 hrs.
