UPL 39182
IMAGEThe first plane Bob (second from left in photo) was assigned to was a B-17F, serial number 42-9829. The crew voted to nickname the airplane, Son-O-Satan. Bob opposed the name but was voted out. On it’s first mission, 29 May 1943, over the U-Boat docks at St. Nazaire, France, the plane (Son-O-Satan) was so heavily damaged by FLAK, that it never flew in combat again. Bob was happy to get a new plane!
