Major Henry V. "Hank" Markow, USAF, 27 Feb 1961. Markow retired from the USAF on 30 Sept 1963 in the grade of lieutenant colonel at Barksdale AFB. After leaving the service in 1946, Markow was affiliated with the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Oklahoma City and flew with a reserve unit at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma until recalled during the Korean War. He served as a pilot in the 514th Reconnaissance Squadron (Very Long Range, Weather), at North Field, Guam from 1948-1950. For the remainder of his Air Force career he served in Strategic Air Command air refueling units, including the 306th Air Refueling Squadron at MacDill AFB, Florida; 340th Air Refueling Squadron, Sedalia AFB (later, Whiteman AFB), Missouri; 42d Air Refueling Squadron, Loring AFB, Maine; and the 913th Air Refueling Squadron, Barksdale AFB, Louisiana.
