IMAGE"Concealed under the heavy pall of smoke in the left center of this picture is the damaged structure of a bridge which the Germans used in linking their strong points on the peninsula and mainland of Brest, France. 9th AF Marauders and Havocs, in an attack carried out 3 Sept 44, left part of the bridge dangling in the water. Previous attacks have gouged hundreds of holes near berth slips and dock facilities and gutted many buildings. Many bombs have hit the promontory jutting out to sea, in the centre of the picture, as is evident from the overlapping craters and the roofless buildings."
