Charles A. Schweigman flew a practice mission 9 February 1945 in B-17 44-8018 (nicknamed Margie) with Jack Leatherman as co-pilot. While they were landing, the right gear collapsed and the plane ground-looped. With the plane heading for an olive grove, Schweigman pulled up the left gear and th eplane came to a stop without fire or collision. There were 10 others on board, but no one was injured. The plane was salvaged.
