IMAGELt. James E. Frye flew with the 351st Fighter Squadron/353rd Fighter Group from November 1944 until March 19, 1945. His P-51D was "Ginny" and he was credited with an aerial victory on March 3, 1945. While returning from a mission on March 19, 1945 Frye was nursing back his aircraft over the Channel when he disappeared into a cloud bank. Those flying with him never saw him reappear from the clouds and presumed he either had complete engine failure or got vertigo in the clouds and vertically entered the channel ASR was directed to the area and no sight of him or wreckage was found.
