George Amberg recorded these messages to his wife, Martha, and their five-year-old daughter, Jay, just days before the Marks crew deployed to Europe in December, 1943. George recorded these two 78-RPM "Voice-of-Your-Man-in-Service" discs in a Pepsi-Cola Company-sponsored mobile recording booth at an army air base in Kearney, Nebraska. What you hear are sides one and two of the first disc followed by sides one and two of the second disc, in sequence. Martha and Jay were then traveling to New York City to spend the Christmas holidays at the home of George's mother. Damage to some grooves in the discs created permanent skips that cannot be repaired but, for the most part, the 5 minutes and 20 seconds of material is audible.
