Mel Dahlberg, Paratrooper, US Army. 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment. In 1943 Mel was in training to be a paratrooper. He landed in Italy near Anzio and also later jumped into France. He was called up to fight during the Battle of the Bulge. After being wounded by a grenade, he worked in the 31st Statistical Control Unit keeping track of the Eighth Air Force in England sorting records and information encoded on cards (with something akin to an early computer). He came home on the Queen Mary.
