Major Duane Beeson inspects P-51B 43-6819 tail feathers. March 5th 1944. Struck by flak while strafing, his combat report revealed how close a call it was:
“I felt a heavy blow on the a/c and was thrown over on my side. Had great difficulty regaining control…reduced speed for better control. I was forced to hold hard left rudder the whole way back.”
