The B-24D Liberator 42-40775 Wolf Wagon in the 8th AF, the 389th BG, and the 565th BS, flew on the Ploesti oil refinery raid piloted by Kenneth H. Matson, returning safely to Libya. 1 Aug 1943 Wolf Wagon was shot down by AA on a mission to Wiener-Neustadt, while being flown by the Kenneth Matson crew. The 389th BG was at that time on TDY in Tunisia in support of the invasion of Italy. 6 KIA - 4 POW. MACR 5859.
