An Aerodrome in Nancy, France after being strafed by the 479th Fighter Group, 18 August 1944. Gun camera image. Colonel Hubert Zemke (commander of the 479th Fighter Group) has handwritten on the reverse: 'Nancy/ Essey Airdrome (Flughafen) being strafed by Capt GK Sykes (435th Ftr Sq) 479th Ftr Group. The He 111K being taken out is to the left- just going up in smoke. Because of the smoke of oher aircraft having been set on fire from earlier passes of P-38, the situation was becoming a bit hairy to pick out a target.'
