"I Got Spurs", the nickname of a reconnaissance-modified B-17 Flying Fortress of the 3rd Photographic Reconnaissance and Mapping Group, at a North African airfield. The nickname came from a pair of silver spurs given to the Group's commanding officer, Colonel Elliot Roosevelt, by the citizens of Fort Worth Texas, and then dedicated to the aircraft by Colonel Roosevelt. The crew were: Captain John R. Combs, Pilot, San Marcus, Texas; First Lieutenant B.E. Shaw Jr., Co-pilot, Marshall, Missouri; First Lieutenant Everett Anthony, Navigator, Hartford, Connecticut; Technical Sergeant Fred D. Rutledge, Engineer, Damascus, Virginia; Technical Sergeant Edward J. Bilinsky, Radio Operator, Jersey City, New Jersey; Staff Sergeant Don L. Nelson, Gunner, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Staff Sergeant Claude W. Stanley, Gunner, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Sergeant Leon L. Kraus, Gunner, Norristown, Pennsylvania; Sergeant Arthur D. Cox, Photographer, Little Rock, Arkansas; and Sergeant Henry L. Ford, Photographer, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Printed caption on reverse: '22848 AC - "I Got Spurs", Flying Fortress, (Col.
