A brand new B-24 Liberator (serial number 44-40188), which would later join the 90th Bomb Group, 5th Air Force flies over Californian mountains. Image stamped on reverse: 'General Dynamics, Convair.' [stamp] First handwritten caption on reverse: 'A Convair B-24J-15-co Liberator fresh from San Diego factory flies over the mountiains of California.' Second handwritten caption, by Freeman, on reverse: 'Early B-24 J-COs has the solid looking Motor Products nose turret, and pilots heads in low position.' Joined the 400th Bomb Squadron and crashed on approach to Hollandia on 11 June 1944 before it had time to be named.
