Printed caption on reverse: 'A Pacific War Veteran Now Commands A Fighter Group In E.T.O. Lt. Col. J. Cummings, Jr., commanding officer of 355th Fighter Group, used to fly operationally in the Pacific area of action, serving with a pursuit group during the siege on Corregidor and Bataan. He was commanding officer of the operational training unit in Australia before returning to the United States. With the expansion of the Eighth Air Force in the European Theatre of Operations he was later made a commanding officer of the fighter Group. He wears the Defence ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon citation device, the American Theatre ribbon and the Distinguished Flying Cross.' Second printed caption attached obscured by first caption.
