Second World War higher formation badge for the United States Strategic Air Forces in Europe (USSTAF). The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved by a US War Department radiogram dated 21 December 1944 and formal approval by the Quartermaster General was granted on 27 December 1944. The Command was formed on 1 January 1944 at Bushey Park, England under Lieutenant-General Carl Spaatz. It was administratively responsible for all US Army Air Forces in the UK and later for operational control of the 8th and 15th Air Forces.

Eighth Air Force Headquarters became USSTAF in February 1944 and oversaw all Strategic Air Force activities in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatre of Operations, particularly the operations of the Eighth and Fifteenth Air Forces.
