This insignia was designed by S/Sgt John "Bud" Sterling of the 524th BS 379th BG. John was a Ground Crew Chief on many aircraft such as: 42-29718 -"Fatso"; 42-107068 "Powerful Katrinka" & 43-37943 "Million Dollar Baby". After "Million Dollar Baby" went over the 100 mission mark, John renamed her the "Hundred Million Dollar Baby". John was also one of the top nose artist of the 524th BS. For his meritorious maintenance & service record John was awarded the Legion of Merit, This made him one of only four Airmen of the 379th BG to receive this award. Roger Freeman Collection
