Detailed History

Allied aircrew shot down during World War II were incarcerated after interrogation in Air Force Prisoner of War camps run by the Luftwaffe, called Stalag Luft, short for Stammlager Luft or Permanent Camps for Airmen.

Stalag 7a was located in Bavaria, 35 kilometers northeast of Munich, and one kilometer north of Moosburg.

It was the camp for NCO's of the U.S. Air Force until 13 Oct. 1943, when all 1900 were transferred to Stalag 17B.
