Arborfield Cross

Military site

Arborfield Hall housed the Headquarters Unit of the 2nd Advanced Air Depot Area. Composed of about 50 officers and 200 enlisted men the unit moved to Arborfield between December 1943 and January 1944 from Bushey Park, London . The officers ate their meals at Arborfield Grange (SU 751 676). All of the staff were billeted on local families as there was no barrack provision. Left on 15 June 1944, for Normandy (Omaha Beach).

Arborfield Hall was demolished and a much smaller, more modern residence built on the site - 'Aberleigh'.

Exact location unknown.
