BTG, Evans Crew. 381st BG, 535th BS. Shot down 12 August 1943 in B-17 #42-29950 'Forget Me Not'. Mission 317 to the synthetic oil works at Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Alternate target hit at the steel works of Vereinigte Stahlworks of Boxhum. #2 and #4 engines knocked out/on fire by fighters. MACR 385. S/Sgt Mesler last reported laying next to ball turret after being struck by 20mm fire. Killed in Action (KIA).
