MilitaryMidair collision over Munich bomb run. Sheared off left horizontal stabilizer. RAFAAF (name of B-17) went into tailspin, recovered control after 7000 ft, level flight was maintained by way of a turnbuckle consisting of pieces of elevator cable wrapped around the yoke and through 2 holes in the instrument panel thus yielding a turnbuckle with an ax handle acting as the control. Returned to Ridgewell and landed. January - May 1945.
