Attlebridge, Norwich, Norfolk NR9, UK | 28 January 1945 | Taxied 44-10558 "Ma's Little Angel" off the perimeter track. "I was taxiing at about 10 mph and had just made the turn on the perimeter track just beyond runway 04. It had been snowing off and on all morning and it was absolutely impossible to tell where the paved part of the track ended. I thought I was on the pavement as I was judging by the tracks on the pavement, when suddenly the left wheel dropped into an unmarked soft spot on the edge of the perimeter. The wheel dropped a good 3 feet causing the landing gear to snap off. The prop of #1 engine hit the ground while the left wing tip and nose wheel were also damaged. If that ditch had been properly filled in the plane would have never been damaged." - Lt. Thomas Dilworth, Accident Report dated 5 February 1945 |
