My father was injured on a mission to Brunswick Germany that flew from Old Buck on April 28th, 1944 on a B-24 Liberator named CEE-GEE II piloted by Lt Gus Johnson. He was taken off the plane unconscious and did not see any of his crew mates until a 1988 reunion in Ohio. There he learned that Sgt. Peter Becker, also wounded, hand cranked the front wheels down and was awarded the Silver Star for his effort. He cried when he told me that story.
