On the night of the 31st of December 1943 #42-31528 crashed on the Ashridge Estate near Aldbury, UK. The aircraft broke up and caught fire but Ruby Daley, a Secretary with Red Cross Nurse Training scrambled up the hill to tend to the wounded, Ruby treated 5 of the 6 survivors including helping to carry one away in an improvised stretcher from the danger of exploding ammunition. Ruby`s actions are credited with saving lives that night.
