Roy flew over 50 combat and escort missions in the European theater and in the Air Force during the Korean War.

As a P-38 pilot he flew over 20 escort missions with the 15th Air Force including the high level Ploesti missions in late summer 1944.

He was promoted into an elite Squadron doing Recon/BDA/OSS missions under direct command of the OP Officer of the 15th (Gen. Born).

Flew a lot up the Danube and got shot at by the Russians as much as the Germans. Shot down three times, was MIA for about a week hiding out in Italian barns before a U.S. I&R platoon rescued him.

Led the 15th AF mission over Berlin March 24, 1945.

Later in life still likes flying his prized Cessna .
