Weitzenfeld was C.O. of 324th Sqdn 91st BG for over a year and a stabilizing influence - during his watch the Squadron had a reputation for reliability, maintenance and low abortive and casualty rates. In July 1944 he was assigned to 1st Bomber Division as Air Inspector.
