Killed in Action (KIA) on 22-Sep-43 as Pilot of P-47C 41-6411 [HL:N] while on a fighter sweep operation of the Calaise/Egmond area. The aircraft ran out of fuel, 2LT Charlton baled out into the sea. Air-Sea Rescue was unable to find him and he was lost in the sea.
