Died

Mankato, MN, USA 18 February 2007 Marlow A. Jovaag was born June 30, 1915 to Halmick A. and Olise (Rongstad) Jovaag in Kenyon, MN. The family moved to Mankato in 1919. He attended school in Mankato, Minneapolis and in St. Louis, MS where he graduated from High School in 1934. He served the Government in Civilian Conservation Corp. in Arkansas following graduation and then returned to Mankato and then to Oshkosh, WI. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II flying missions over Germany and the occupied countries of Europe. He was an Armorer Gunner on a B-24 Liberator. His missions earned him the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, a Campaign Ribbon with four Battle Stars. After separation from the service in 1945 he married Sadie Haskins at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa in 1946. He joined the Mankato Fire Department in 1948 until his retirement in 1977. He and his wife are charter members of Christ the King Lutheran Church and have served the church in many areas including the Church Council, Church School Committees and Bible Study Groups. He is also a member of VFW Post # 950 and American Legion Post # 11. Shorty enjoyed golf, guitar, woodworking, and his grandchildren's sporting events. He also volunteered his time with Hilltoppers.
