Shot down 5 January 1944 in B-17 #42-30200 'Slo-Time Sally. ' Evaded (EVD). Helped by French citizens and members of the Résistance, he was guided to Brittany, from where, along with 15 other American airmen and a Belgian member of the RAF, he boarded a Royal Navy Motor Gun Boat on 26 February 1944. It was MGB-503, which left from Sous-Kéruzeau and arrived in Dartmouth, England on 27 February 1944. Escape & Evasion Report E&E 427.
