MilitaryINT Crashed near Bautzen on 9/12/44 in B-17 Stinker #42102597 Only member of crew to survive. Plane was shot down by fighters, went into the sea and exploded. He told his daughter: He didn't know how long he was in the water, maybe a couple of hours. He noticed the parachute held air and thought it would help rescuers locate him. Then the parachute started sinking and he was sort of wrapped up in it. by then. Just before he thought he couldn't take another beath due to the high waves he was plucked from the sea. Reported 12 Sept 1944 by USTAAF as interned in Sweden.
