Lowrie Glenn Simms dropped out of dentistry school to join the USAAF. He was assigned to the 422nd Bomb Squadron, 305th Bomb Group based at Chelveston. He was part of the Lt. Ted Porebski crew. He served as ball turret gunner on the B-17G-70-BO, 43-37837, JJ-K, "Stag Party" from October 1944 until just prior to the aircraft being shot down on 1 January 1945. Following the demise of ‘Stag Party’, he went on to serve as the ball turret gunner on another B-17G, ‘Cisco’s Kids’, B-17G-40-VE, 42-97995, JJ-D, until completing his 35th mission on 14 February 1945. He returned to the US in March 1945.
Upon returning to the US, he worked at various jobs and started a senior Boy Scout troop in Plano, IL. He married, raised a family, and started on a career with Plano Molding, manufacturer of the Plano Fishing Tackle Box. In 2006, he was inducted into the International Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame. Lowrie Glenn Simms passed away on 24 March 2010 at the age of 90.
