Oak Leaf Cluster for wear with previously awarded Distinguished Flying Cross. "For extraordinary achievement while serving as Air Commander of a Combat Bombardment Wing composed of B-17 aircraft on a bombing mission over Germany, 15 August 1944. On this date Col. Hall expertly led the formation to the important enemy objective. While on the bombing run, approximately one minute before the release of bombs, flak struck the airplane in which he was flying, knocking it over onto its right side, setting fire to the Number Three engine and severing many control cables. With consummate flying skill and great determination, Col. Hall assisted the Pilot in remaining level flight and continued on the bombing run. Bombs were released and superior results attained. After leaving the target, he rallied the formation and accomplished the return flight without loss. The courage, coolness and tenacity of purpose displayed by Col. Hall reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States. Entered military service from Arkansas.
