2-Dec-42 while transporting navigators to a school in Oxfordshire, main landing gear retracted upon landing. All crewmembers survived on B-24 41-23674.
Later on 16-Apr-43 Packer would crash land battle damaged B-24 41-23847, "Yardbird", with all but one crew member surviving.
Awards: DFC, AM (2OLC), WWII Victory, EAME (2 x Battle Stars).
Post war: Served on the Air Staff at the Pentagon until Jul-47. Packer continued his Air Force service in Utah and was eventually promoted to Brigadier General in May-67. President and General Manager of Packer Motor Co. which he operated with his brothers for 30 years.
