Assigned to 324BS, 91BG, 8AF USAAF. Crew chief for B-17 #41-24485 'Memphis Belle' Joe kept the 'Belle' Flying through six months of combat. He replaced 9 engines, both wings, two tails, both main landing gear, and more !! Once 'Belle' returned to the US, he was crew chief on B-17 #41-9023 'Yankee Doodle' a war weary hack passed to 91BG from 97BG.

Post war: Retired as construction company office manager.
