Herrice, 165 Maple Ave., Motuchen, N.J. gets into his Thunderbolt P-47, as he receives a final report on the ship's flying condition from Cpl. Joseph M. Gillen, 60 Varick St., Owego, N.Y. Corrected 'Herrice' to 'Herrick'. Home address matches up with the John W Herrick listed in the Duxford Diary.
On 26-Nov-43 as pilot of P-47C 41-6188 [MX:U], 78FG/82FS 2LT John Herrick was despatched with 76 other P-47s to provide escort for bomber formations attacking at Bremen, Germany. His aircraft was shot down by German fighters near Chantilly, France. He baled out over Beauvais, France and managed to evade capture. He returned to England on 3-Feb-44. MACR 1441 and E&E 381.
