War Correspondent for Yank Magazine, one of eight journalists invited to join the 8th Air Force on bombing missions over Germany as part of the Writing 69th. In February 1943 Denton Scott underwent a week long training program, he was one of two journalists who didn't fly the mission over Wilhelmshaven on 26 February 1943. Due to the death of Robert Post, another journalist it was decided that journalists would no longer accompany crews on bomber missions. Nevertheless Denton Scott joined a bomber crew a few weeks later for a mission over Lorient, France. He described the experience:

'You are moving at several hundred miles an hour, and things are coming at you at several hundred miles an hour, and you dearly love life and your wife back in the States, and the sooner you get the hell out of there the better it will suit you.”

Following the war Denton Scott returned to the United States, he became an editor writing on gun-dogs in Field and Stream Magazine and is credited for making Wiemeranas a popular breed in the US. He continued to write, turning his hand to travel, mystery, food and children's writing, publishing books with the collaboration of his wife Mary Lou. In 1962 Denton Scott became aware of the plight of Mr Magoo, a smuggled pet Mongoose, suspected to be the only one in the US, on display at Duluth Zoo in Minnesota. With Mr Magoo at risk of deportation or worse execution, Denton Scott was his savior, writing the children's story 'The Duluth Mongoose' which increased Mr Magoo's popularity and ensured his safety.
