He was born in Philadelphia on Sept. 26, 1921, the son of Louis and Sarah (Corson) Wishkin. During World War II, he joined the Army Air Corps and was stationed at Grenier Air Field in Manchester, where he met the love of his life, Rosalie Eluto. He was a technical sergeant, an AAF engineer, and ball turret gunner on the Eighth AAF's B-17 Flying Fortress "Darlin' Dolly's Daughter." Hy earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for completing more than 30 missions over Europe and continued to remain active in the 95th Bomber Group.
