St. Omer, France | 16 September 1943 | "While CPT Nesselrode photographed his assigned targest of St. Omer/Longuenesse and St. Omer/Fort Rouge airfields from 28,000 feet, RAF controllers warned him by radio of enemy fighters ahead. He looked and saw three FW-190's coming toward him. Making a diving turn, he watched the three enemy aircraft pass over his F-5 and continue one. Nesselrode returned to base, his mission partially successful." |
