Eric Hutchin trained on Course 10 at Falcon Field starting on 23 June 23 1942 and graduated on 31 December 1942. During his time at Falcon Field, Eric fell in love with a local girl, seventeen year old Frances McKenzie.

Upon his return to England he flew Spitfires and Typhoons throughout the war, all the time writing to Frances. His life and letters are chronicled in "Finding Frances...Love Letters from a Flight Lieutenant", written by his niece Catherine Hutchin-Harris.

Eric was awarded the 1939-1945 Star Battle of Britain, the 1939-1945 War Medal and the 1939-1945 Air Crew Europe Star.
