Emile enlisted in Feb 1942 and completed Basic Training at Camp Keesler in Biloxi, Mississippi . This was followed by several weeks of technical training at the Airplane and Engine Mechanics School at Wendover Field, Utah. Emile was selected to play for the Western Army All-Stars football team that toured the country playing exhibition games against NFL teams in 1942 to raise funds for the Army Emergency Relief fund. In the fall of 1942 he shipped to Wendover Army Air Field in Utah and was assigned to the 351st Bomb Squadron, 100th Bomb Group and completed training with them from Nov 1942 to Jan 1943. The 100th sailed for England on the QE2 with 15,000 other soldiers in 1943. The unit was stationed in Thorpe Abbots in eastern England just south of Norwich. He serves as an engine mechanic for Fools Rush In and Heaven Sent. He was promoted to Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps and flew several missions over France. in Aug 1945 he flew back to the US on a B-17 as part of a re-deployment to the Pacific theater and was in Miami on leave when the war ended.
