After completing his combat tour, Adelman returned to the United States, remaining in the Army. He died in an air accident in Alabama on 31 March 1945.
The city of Boston, Massachusetts recognized Adelman's service by naming a square in his honor: 'Milton Adelman Square' is located at the intersection of Putnam Street and Chelsea Street.
