On 12 September 1944, enemy aircraft shot down this crew in Flying Fortress #43-38355 over Wackersleben. The plane crashed at Üplingen, where the survivors – Fahey, Tipton, Fiore, Gialloreto, and Jorg – were captured by German soldiers.
