Shot down 30 July 1943 in B-17 #42-30202. Initially evaded with the help of Belgian citizens and members of the Résistance. Sheltered in many places, notably in Antwerp and Brussels, he was caught in a trap and arrested by the Gestapo on 4 September 1943. Prisoner of War (POW).
