Denver Clyde Loberg
Military ROLL OF HONOURDenver Loberg served as a waist gunner with the 467th Bomb Group, flying bombing missions out of Rackheath, England. He was Killed in Action (KIA) when he fell from plane.
Watts p 170 shows the a/c B24J-55 CO 42-99971 'Battlin' Baby'. It further states that Loberg's death was in the bomb bay when a/c was about 500 ft altitude and fell with the bombs.
The mission was for the Battle of the Bulge when every plane was ordered to fly as weather was finally good enough for flight- the single largest flight of the war.
Purple Heart; Air Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster;
EDIT: Mission reports shows Loberg was part of McArthur crew flying in 41-29378. This B-24 was indeed a early return on Dec 24th 1944.
42-99971 bombed with 458th BG this day.
Seems Watts book is in error.
