Fighter attacks set two engines on fire on a mission to Klein Machnow, Berlin on 6 Mar 1944 and B-17G #42-97491 'Ronnie R' crashed E of Vechta after the crew baled out. Prisoner of War (POW). Earlier on 12/30/1943, his B17 was flak damaged and then attacked by fighters killing co-pilot Robert Digby.
