He enlisted in September 1943, trained as a gunner and sailed for England aboard the 'Aquitania' in November 1944. At Mendlesham his favorite pub was 'The Oak' - he was to keep in touch with the owner and family for many years exchanging visits. He flew on six missions as ball turret gunner and the rest of his tour as waist gunner. He was recalled during the Korean War and flew on a further 34 missions from the top turret of the B-29. In civilian life he worked for his area telephone company was active in the American Legion and was a Board member of the 34thBG association.
